A violin is crafted of about 80 parts, together
weighing in at little over one pound. It's a
delicate structure that is precisely engineered
to withstand nearly 70 pounds of string tension.
To the untrained eye, all violins may look
alike. To the expert, however, no two
instruments are identical.
Today, Lewis instruments are crafted in the same
tradition as they were a century ago. We insist
upon properly aged premium wood for the most
resonant sounding instruments, and still
carefully hand adjust each instrument to meet or
exceed the critical tolerances established by
the Music Educators National Conference, giving
each violin, viola, cello and bass that leaves
our hands its unique sound and soul.
